You will love this former baroque military town, surrounded by water. This UNESCO World Heritage jewel situated south-west of Berlin is absolutely unique and breathtaking with its landscape of palaces and gardens and array of architectural styles which reflect the inclinations and tendencies of the former kings and their time. The most famous palace being Sanssouci meaning "no worries". This was designed by Frederick the Great, the multitalented and genius son of an abusive father and one of the most essential and respected thinkers and military leaders of his time. We will get into the complexity of this fascinating personality as we move through the palaces and gardens from one photo opportunity to the next. Discover Cecilienhof, venue of the Potsdam Conference where Churchill, Stalin, and Truman decided upon the fate of Europe and the world after WWII, the place where the term "iron curtain" was first uttered. A well-deserved break awaits us in the original Dutch quarter.
What will you explore and learn more about? - Babelsberg with its spectacular and breathtaking view from the Babelsberg Castle to the "Bridge of Spies". - Cecilienhof Palace - Venue of the Potsdam Conference - Alexandrowka, a quant original Russian quarter in Potsdam - Sansouci Palace* with its captivating Gardens - Peace Church built on water in the Italian style in the middle of the 19th century. - The charming streets of Potsdam with its original Dutch quarter built for Dutch engineers and workers in the early 1700s. After a refreshing lunch or snack, we will walk over the "Bridge of Spies" (Glienicker Brücke) where you will enjoy the breathtaking views from the other side of the lake and then head back to Berlin.
