Traveller reviews in Paris

We loved our tour of Versailles with Celine. She had great knowledge of the palace and the gardens...and answered all of our general Paris questions as well. Celine also had a great personality and we loved talking with her. Super patient, even with navigating all of the annoying crowds. Highly recommend her! She won't disappoint.

Versailles Private Half-Day Tour
The complete guide. We spent two days exploring Normandy with her and loved every minute. Helped us as we drove back to Paris on a Friday afternoon through traffic and stayed with us until we checked the rental car back in, couldn't have asked any more from a guide.

In short this tour was outstanding! We wanted to see as much of Paris in 6 hours as we could and Maria delivered. At lunch, she helped us plan the rest of the week and gave us useful advice and recommendations that make it easier to navigate Paris. I would recommend this for anyone coming to Paris.

Our tour was 10 Stars!!! Our tour guide Teddy was wonderful. He offered great and unique information about Paris. He also showed us how locals live and some other sites that most tourists never see. I would strongly recommend Teddy for anyone looking for a unique and wonderful tour of Paris. He would be good to hire in the beginning of a trip because he could give you good advice for other fun things to do later.

More ways to experience Paris

Strolling along the cobblestone paths or tasting a freshly made baguette, the layers of Paris just seem to unravel themselves. On every corner, the city is alive with things to do in the form of historic landmarks, thriving neighborhoods and seasonal surprises that show more than a glimpse of the Parisian heartbeat. From tucked-away bookshops to traditional bistros, expect no shortage of authentic experiences. As the city reveals its clothes, keep an eye out for lesser-trodden paths, nuanced travel tips, and simple pleasures that shape the unique character of the City of Light.

Explore Paris off the beaten path

If you’re drawn to alternative things to do, slip away from the big-ticket sights and drift into small rituals, quiet museums, mellow views, and shops Parisians actually use.

Cultural experiences: Late morning, stand outside Le Baron Rouge by Marché d’Aligre and share oysters and a crisp white with market regulars. In the afternoon, catch a Guignol puppet show in Parc des Buttes-Chaumont and clap along with the kids.

Small museums and galleries: Step into Musée Zadkine, a calm studio garden near Luxembourg full of carved figures and light. Duck into Musée de la Vie Romantique in Pigalle for painted salons and tea in the courtyard. Then swing by Atelier Brancusi opposite Centre Pompidou to see the sculptor’s studio just as he left it.

Less crowded scenic viewpoints: Climb to the terrace in Parc de Belleville for a wide sunset view that feels local and lived-in. Or linger on the Passerelle Simone-de-Beauvoir at blue hour for a quiet sweep of the Seine and the BnF’s glowing towers.

Shop for local products & souvenirs: Go early on weekend mornings to the Marché aux Puces de Vanves for vintage posters, café cups, and linen. Near République, La Trésorerie stocks French-made brushes, enamelware, and sturdy linens you’ll actually use. Later, flip through vintage prints at the bouquinistes along Quai de la Tournelle as the light fades.

Popular neighbourhoods

When it comes to discovering the most authentic things to do in Paris, exploring its array of unique neighbourhoods is a real key. These districts, or 'arrondissements' as locals call them, each have their own distinct character and are waiting to unfold their stories in front of you.

Bastille: Step back in time through the stone-paved streets of Bastille. With the imposing July Column commemorating the French Revolution and the vibrant Opera Bastille, let the history and culture seep into your holiday as you explore the flourishing bar scene and bustling local markets.

Belleville: Roam around the art-infused streets of Belleville. Known for its multicultural vibe, colourful murals, and mesmerizing viewpoints over the city, the area offers authentic Parisian charms and a homely atmosphere that lies beyond its graffiti-laden surface.

Canal Saint-Martin: Unwind beside the serene Canal Saint-Martin, a waterway peppered with shady plane trees and iron footbridges. Watch boats lazily drift by from trendy cafes that line the canal, while enjoying a flaky croissant and a cup of rich, locally roasted coffee.

Champs-Élysées: Marvel at the grandeur of Champs-Élysées. Lined with plush boutiques, grand theatres, and charming cafes, this heart of Parisian elegance ends in the commanding presence of the Arc de Triomphe, symbolizing French grit and mettle.

Île de la Cité: Broaden your historical horizons at Île de la Cité, an island on the River Seine. Here you'll find the awe-inspiring Notre Dame Cathedral and the captivating Sainte-Chapelle, transporting you into the pages of a medieval novel.

Things to do in Paris by season

Spring: Paris wakes up with cherry blossoms in neighbourhood squares and along the Seine, and you can expect mild days perfect for garden time in the Tuileries and Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. It’s a sweet season for couples to wander Montmartre at golden hour while families picnic and sample crêpes. If you’re wondering about the best time to visit Paris for blooms and lighter crowds, this is it.

Summer: Long daylight and café terraces set the pace, so things to do in Paris in summer lean outdoors. Cool off on the river at sunset, join locals at Paris Plages, and start museums early on hotter days, easy for seniors and families. Bastille Day brings fireworks and a festive buzz you’ll feel across the city.

Fall: The city settles into a slower rhythm, with golden leaves in the Luxembourg Gardens and harvest flavours in markets and bistros. Art lovers plan around new exhibitions, and seniors appreciate shorter queues and comfortable temperatures. Don’t miss neighbourhood fêtes like the Montmartre grape harvest to meet locals and taste the season.

Winter: Christmas in Paris lights up grand boulevards and covered passages, with lively markets, skating rinks, and café windows fogged by hot chocolate. Couples linger at illuminated landmarks while families chase carousels and festive displays, and January sales make shopping tempting. Expect crisp air, cosy museums, and shorter lines.

Across the year, Paris rolls out beloved public events that are easy to enjoy with a local guide. Fête de la Musique in June turns every neighbourhood into a stage, Bastille Day on 14 July brings a parade and fireworks, and Paris Plages sets up riverside beaches through summer. In September, Journées du Patrimoine opens normally closed doors, while Nuit Blanche fills an October night with public art, and the Tour de France finale sweeps down the Champs-Élysées for a curbside finish.
