A Trip to Gorski Kotar from Rijeka Tour
Plans changed at the last minute and Opatija became the destination. Beautiful locale but what made it even better was Mario's tour. Highly recommended to have a full understanding and feel of this area and why it is so special. Our guests truly enjoyed their time with Mario and their time in Opatija. Thank you Mario!

More ways to experience Krk

On the Adriatic Sea, the town of Krk beckons travelers to uncover its unexpected treasures. It's a place where cobblestone streets echo tales of history and coastal paths meander into tranquil beaches. Finding things to do in Krk is like unwrapping a precious gift - one moment, you're feasting on fresh seafood at a local tavern, the next you're exploring hidden vineyards. The town bustles with life and culture in each corner, delivering a balanced palette of tradition and exploration for connoisseurs of real, unvarnished experiences.

Explore Krk off the beaten path

Wander side streets and quiet coves to find alternative things to do, swapping crowds for family cellars, small chapels, and mellow corners that feel lived‑in.

Cultural experiences: Roll into Vrbnik for a late‑afternoon tour and Žlahtina tasting at Gospoja Winery, hearing how the vines cling to limestone. After dark, grab a seat on Kamplin Square by Frankopan Castle, where summer evenings often carry klapa harmonies, or ferry over to Košljun islet to walk the monastery paths in the hush.

Small museums and galleries: Stop by St. Lucy Church in Jurandvor to see the Baška Tablet and the tiny lapidarium. Take the short boat from Punat to the Franciscan Monastery on Košljun to browse its cozy ethnographic rooms. Back in town, peek into Galerija Decumanus for small shows by island artists.

Less crowded scenic viewpoints: Hike the Moon Plateau above Baška in late afternoon, when the pale rock glows and the sea turns deep blue. For softer views, walk the Frankopan Castle ramparts near sunset or pause at the Kornić roadside pull‑offs over Puntarska Draga.

Shop for local products & souvenirs: Be early at the green market by Krk’s harbor for bunches of sage, jars of anchovies, and fresh figs. Swing by Sirana Magriž in Kornić to taste island sheep cheese and pick up a vacuum‑sealed wedge. In Vrh, Kuća krčkog pršuta Žužić slices pršut to order and bottles local olive oil for easy packing.

Popular neighbourhoods

Unfolding Krk's charm lies in experiencing its varied neighbourhoods, each linen with distinct traditions, natural beauty, or historical significance. They are ready to impress with unique stories and experiences.

Krk Town: Enjoy the medieval splendor of Krk Town, walking through its fortified walls. Ancient churches, delightful squares, and a lively port define this picturesque area.

Baska: Relax amidst Baska’s stunning natural landscapes, with crystal clear waters and a long pebble beach flanked by rugged cliffs. Tread the narrow streets or celebrate local heritage at the Baska tablet.

Malinska: Navigate Malinska's scenic seaside walkways dotted with charming cafes and seafood eateries. Verdant surroundings and serene coves extend an invigorating outdoor experience.

Vrbnik: Overlook the blue Adriatic Sea from atop dramatic cliffs in this hilltop village. Visit old taverns to taste Zlahtina, the native white wine, and wander through the narrowest street in the world.

Punat: Dock at the largest marina in the Adriatic Sea and explore Punat's quaint old town. Further afield, the islet of Kosljun offers peaceful seclusion with its forest park and Franciscan Monastery.

Things to do in Krk by season

Spring: Trace coastal promenades scented with sage, then cycle terrace lanes between stone‑walled vineyards. Stop for young olive oil tastings and easy harbour lunches that seniors and families both enjoy.

Summer: Things to do on Krk in summer run from morning beach hops by taxi boat to starlit klapa concerts in old squares. Join fisherman’s nights for grilled sardines, and slip away to quieter coves for couples’ swims.

Fall: Often the best time to visit Krk, with warm seas and grape and olive harvests shaping menus. Walk karst trails, taste fresh cheeses, and linger at village fairs as the island exhales after peak season.

Winter: Christmas on Krk brings small Advent markets, nativity scenes in stone alleys and brisk seaside strolls. Carnival season follows with masked parades and bell ringers across Kvarner.

Each year, the medieval Lovrečeva Fair in August fills Krk Town with crafts and pageantry, while summer fisherman’s nights pop up from Baška to Malinska. Autumn food weekends celebrate olives, figs and island wines, and Advent gatherings light harbourfronts in December.
