Overview of your Korcula tour:

Korčula is a stunning medieval town. The tiny Old Town sits on a limestone promontory straight out of a fairy tale. Everywhere you look, you'll find limestone carvings - above doors, all around windows, on balconies… Here, you're in the cradle of stone masonry. Gothic-Renaissance is omnipresent… As we stroll, you'll see cats that already outnumber the inhabitants of the Old Town. You'll learn about the strategic position of the town, and where all that limestone was hauled from. I'll take you along the streets laid out in a fishbone pattern, pointing out the key elements of an ingenious urban construction. I'll trace little by little the history of the town, explaining major economic and social changes. And finally, I'll introduce you to the Korčula brotherhoods and their traditional processions. Marco Polo? Of course, we'll stop in front of the birthplace of Marco Polo. If you don't believe he was born here, it's all right. After you hear my story, you'll change your mind.

Your Korcula tour itinerary

On this tour, you'll get to know all the major sights of the Old Town, and some minor sights as well. - Starting at the Land Gate, our route will lead us through narrow streets where laundry is hung out to dry, to the main square where St. Mark's Cathedral is squeezed. - We'll visit All Saints' Church and we'll enter the seat of All Saints' Brotherhood where Byzantine Icons are on display. You'll also see the wax candles that brothers carry in their processions. - There is a promenade that goes all around the Old Town, and we'll make a full circle in fifteen minutes. If we really are slow. - The cherry on the cake - I'll take you to the birthplace of Marco Polo. Our tour will end at the Sea Gate, on the western waterfront of the Old Town. Please note that I would be delighted to customize this tour to suit your interests and needs if you so wish.
