The Golden Circle is a classic day tour from Reykjavík on which we will visit Iceland's most popular natural sights: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Strokkur and Gullfoss Waterfall Instead of just stopping at these gorgeous places, I would like to let you see them through my eyes. Þingvellir is a place of great historical and cultural relevance and we can travel back to the roots of democracy there. In my opinion a real treasure in this area lies in the lava fields we will see. In the past I have spent many days hiking and even horseback riding in this area and value the national park for its beauty.
* We start the day in Reykjavik and drive approximately one hour past the lake Þingvallavatn into Þingvellir National Park which marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates was the location of the annual parliament in Iceland and is now one of its most popular sights. Here we can take a walk "between the continents" and see the beautiful little waterfall Öxarárfoss. In * Our journey continues eastwards through farm land until we reach the Geysir "Strokkur" which entertains visitors with a fountain of hot water every few minutes. You can walk through the hot spring area and take lots of great pictures of Geysir. In the visitor centre you can buy souvenirs and we can take a coffee or lunch break. * From here we carry on to see the massive waterfall Gullfoss, another location to enjoy Iceland's breathtaking nature until we drive back to Reykjavík maybe stopping at one or two more places on the way.
